Inquest.
Auckland. —On the 3rd instant the dead body of a man, name unknown, was found near the top of Mount Eden, and at an inquest held on the following day an open verdict was returned. Deceased had a small broken cord looped round his neck, and appears to have attempted to hang himself, failing which, he used a six-chambered revolver, found at his side. Ho was apparently about forty-five years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, medium build, brown hair and whiskers mixed with grey, bald on crown of head, dressed in a greytweed suit, nearly new, and soft black-felt hat. It has been ascertained that he arrived from Sydney by the s.s. “Mararoa ” on the 29th ultimo, and informed a fellow-passenger that he belonged to Galatz, a small town in Silesia, Germany ; was a gardener ; and had been employed in Victoria. He pledged his swag on the day after arrival in Auckland at J. Levy’s pawn-office, Victoria Street, giving his name as Mr. Grenock, but there is nothing on any of the articles to establish his identity.
