Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Foxton. —Alfred Ball is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Helen, since May last. Description: A native of Nelson, a labourer, thirty-six years of age, about sft. 2in. high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, cleanshaved except moustache, blind in left eye, AB tattooed on arm; when last seen was dressed in blue serge; attends Salvation Army meetings. He left Coley’s flax-mills, Oroua River, during the above month, intending to seek employment at the Longburn Freezing-works, but has not been heard from since. Complainant and five children are being supported by the Charitable Aid Board.
Wellington. Henry Alexander Scott is charged on warrant with failing to provide his wife and infant with adequate means of support since the 7th ultimo. Description : Thirty-nine years of age, sft. llin. high, slight build, dark-brown hair turning grey, dark moustache only; dressed in a light - grey - tweed suit and hard brown - felt hat. Supposed to have gone to Christchurch.

Wellington. William Francis Moran is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Grace Moran, at Roxburgh Street, since the 9th July, 1892. Description: A native of New Zealand, a baker, thirty-four years of age, sft. sin. high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. He is said to have left Wellington on the Bth July last by the s.s. “ Hauroto ” for Sydney, and is supposed to have gone to Melbourne. (92/1373.)
Christchurch. —William Stevenson is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court, made on the 29th September last, to pay 2s. 6d. a week for the support of each of his six children. Description: English, a sailor, forty-eight years of age, sft. lOin. high, medium build, dark-brown hair turning grey, bald on top of head, clean-shaved except brown moustache, grey eyes; generally wears a serge suit and soft-felt hat.
Reefton. —George Lemon is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Mary Ellen, about four years ago. Description: A native of London, a labourer, thirty-five years of age, sft. 2£in. high, slender build, dark complexion, black hair, small black moustache and goatee, mark under left eye caused by a kick from a horse when a boy, third finger of right hand off ; may bo employed at some factory. Last seen at his mother’s, Aldridge Street, Christchurch, about November, 1889. (See also Police Gazette, 1890, page 38.) The above is an amended description of offender, and, the original warrant being informal, a fresh one was issued on the 11th instant by the Resident Magistrate.

Dunedin. —John McGregor, for disobeying an order to support his wife : This offender, who for some time past has been staying with his father at Kelso, too ill for removal, left on the 7th instant, presumably for the Dunedin Hospital, but has not arrived there. He will probably endeavour to leave the colony.
Masterton. —Thomas Adian Lyons is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Mary, since the 9th October, 1890. Description : A native of New South Wales, about thirty-eight years of age, 6ft. (|in. high, square build, blue or grey eyes, dark hair turning grey, small dark whiskers and moustache only, long thin nose, chin turning upwards, big feet and turns his toes slightly inwards when walking, has a scar on forehead, which may bo covered with his hair ; has been employed on stations, but may now be a commercial traveller. He is said to have been seen at Sydney during February last, but subsequent inquiries there have failed to trace him. (92/578.)
