Tauranga. — James Blake is charged on warrant with having, at To Puke, ofPthe J>fch ultimo, obtained the sum of £5 from William Arthur Blade by false pretences. Description : A half-castc J\Jaori, about twenty-six years of age, sft. 7in. or Bimdifgh, medium build, dark moustache only, large

scar on back of right hand ; may be wearing a light soft-felt hat. Offender received the scar while working at Brown’s flax-mill, Kaikokopu, and obtained the amount from complainant by falsely representing that a solicitor (Mr. Humphreys) had advised him he had good grounds for action against Brown. He left Te Puke, about a week after, by way of Rotorua for Napier, and is said to have relatives in the latter district. It is not known whether he was walking or riding.

Pahiatua. —Andrew Dawson is charged on warrant of con*— mitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, fortwelve months’ labour, in default of finding sureties to keep the peace. .. Description: Colonial, a well-known pugilist, and convicted thief, twenty-seven years of age, 6ft. high, fair hair and complexion, and small moustache only, medium build, weak eyes; dressed in dark-tweed suit and hard brown-felt hat. (See also Police Gazette , 1892, page 22.) He was fined £1 on the 11th ultimo for assaulting one Albert E. Costall, and allowed four days in which to obtain sureties, but has failed to do so. May make for Auckland, where his mother lives.

(See Police Gazette , 1892, page 145.) William Kennedy, for false pretences on Louis Fagan,, has been arrested by Constable W. Ramsay, Christchurch Police, and remanded to Dunedin. Case dismissed.

Charleston (Westland). —Jesse Hatch, Candlelight, reports that, between the lltli and 13th ultimo, about GOOft. of sluice-piping was maliciously cut in various places with a billhook or similar implement, and damaged to the extent of £lO. Suspicion attached to Patrick Kilmartin, a miner in the locality.

Palmerston South. —The Railway Commissioners report that, between 8 p.m., on the 15tli and 7.30 a.m., on the 17th ultimo, a piece of timber, about Gft. long and Gin. diameter, was wilfully placed across the line near the station.
