Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Greytown North. —George Green reports stolen from his bedroom, in H. P. Tunuiorangi’s dwelling, between the 19th and 22nd ultimo, a pair of watertight-boots, kid and calf, value £ 1; and ss. in silver. Boots identifiable. Maoris suspected.

Pahiatua. —The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association report stolen from tlieir shop, on the 25th ultimo, a grey-tweed waterproof-coat with cape attached, large size, large check-pattern ; value £3. Identifiable.

Hawera. —H. Rolfe, John Foreman, and Albert Luxton report stolen from their clothing, in a bedroom at the Royal Hotel, on the 25th ultimo, 10s., Bs. Gd., and ss. respectively. Suspicion attached to Alice Wellington, alias Emily Tonks, a servant in the hotel.

Auckland. —John Wilson Filder, Orakei Road, Remuera, between the 13th and 15th ultimo, seven bottles of Exshaw’s brandy, wire casing, and metal seals ; two bottles of whiskey, and one of rum ; value £3.

Auckland. John Rendall, draper, Grey Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 25th ultimo, five ladies’ umbrellas, dark material, assorted handles ; value £ll2s.

Auckland. —William Swinburne Laurie, Custom Street, reports that, between 1 p.m. on the 25tli and 8 a.m. on the 27th ultimo, his store was broken into, and an attempt made to open the safe. Nothing stolen.

Auckland. —Frederick Whitehead, Victoria Street, reports stolen from his shop-till, on the 29th or 30th ultimo, a white canvas bag, containing £2 in silver and ss. in coppers.

Auckland.— Mary Lawton, fancy-goods dealer, Ponsonby Road, reports stolen, on the 30th ultimo, three small oval-shaped fans with ferns stamped thereon, and three small glass baskets—two dark blue, one red ; value 10s. Gd. Identifiable.

Auckland.— John Henry Hannan, Draper, Victoria Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 2nd instant, a boy’s greycloth overcoat with cape attached ; value 12s. Gd. Identifiable.

Timaru. —Joseph Hataley, commercial traveller, reports stolen from the Grosvenor Hotel, on the 25th or 2Gth ultimo, a waterproof-coat with large cape, large check pattern of pale snuff and white colour, tom on left side of tail, large buttons, “ J. Hataley ” stamped inside coat; value £3 15s. Suspicion attached to William Manley and Thomas Browne. Description: First, supposecPEngttsti, a fireman, twenty -

eight years of age, sft. Bin. high, stout build, pale complexion, dark hair and moustache. Second, English, a seaman, twenty-seven years of age, sft. llin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, small brown moustache only. These men were stowaways on board the s.s. “ Ardle ” from Lyttelton, and have probably gone south.

Christchurch. —Hugh Lowry, 145, Hereford Street, reports stolen from his grain-store, between the 15th and 19th ultimo, a carriage-rug, about sft. by 4ft., yellowish waterproof material on one side, and brown-check cloth on the other, small hole near the edge on one side ; value £l. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Henry Campbell, Richardson’s Hotel, reports stolen, on the 18th ultimo, a brown-tweed waterproofcoat, grey-tweed lining; value £3. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —John Thornton, 11, Victoria Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 29th ultimo, a pair of men’s light indian-kip lace-up boots, size 9, riveted, heel- and toc-plates, soles white and black; value £l. Identification doubtful.

Spring Grove (Nelson). Thomas Kenny, Spooner’s Range, Belgrove, reports stolen from his hut, between the 15th and 19th ultimo, an 18-carat gold ring, engraved with an imitation of the Scotch thistle; value £1 10s. Suspicion attached to George King, who has gone to Nelsou, but may proceed to Motucka, where his friends reside. (For description, see Police Gazette, 1891, page 22.)

Dunedin. —Abraham Posnanski, tailor, George Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 24th ultimo, 7£ yards brown tweed with red spots, yards light-brown tweed, and 5 yards dark trousering ditto with narrow white stripes ; value £3 10s. lOd. Identification doubtful.

Napier. George Wride, commercial traveller, of Melbourne, reports stolen from his bedroom in the Clarendon Hotel, Napier-, on the Bth instant, one £lO and four £1 notes. Suspicion attached to William Henry Greening, alias Archer, and a man, name unknown. Description : First, a native of Christchurch, a labourer, twenty-one years of age, sft. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, small nose ; dressed in brown sac-coat, striped-tweed 'trousers and vest, and brown soft-felt hat, all shabby-looking ; a well-known thief. (See Police Gazette, 1891, page 8.) Second, a spieler, about twenty-six years of age, about sft. 4in. high, slight build, fair complexion, dark hair sideboards and moustache ; dressed in dark coat and vest, liglit-tweed trousers, and hard blackfelt hat; carried a small handbag. These men stayed in the hotel the previous night, and left for Wellington by train on the morning of the above-mentioned date.

Napier. —Thomas Peddie, licensee, Clarendon Hotel, reports stolen, on the Bth instant, a new tapestry windowcurtain, about 15ft. by 4ft., pattern cardinal-red, brown, buff, and green colours, a small buff cross runs along near edges ; value 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to the two men described in preceding notice.

Rawene. —Thomas Chapman, engineer s.s. “ Fingal,” reports stolen from his dwelling at Kohukohu, Hokianga, during his absence between the 27th ultimo and Ist instant, six £1 notes and 3s. Gd. in silver and copper.
