Promotion.

Third-class Constable William Ramsay, No. 488, is promoted to second-class constable, from the Ist instant, for energy and pluck displayed by him in the pursuit and arrest of Arthur Stewart, alias Fisher, an escaped prisoner (92/653.) Electoral Rolls. (Circular Memo. No. 11/92.) Members of the force are requested to render the Registrars of Electors, on application, all possible assistance in purging the electoral rolls, and compiling rolls for new districts, &c., such as giving any information as may be in their power in the matter of the residences of persons on the electoral rolls, and as to persons who have left the electoral district. Dillon Christchurch Police, have been awarded £2 10s. each by the master of the ship “ Camptore,” for recovering a stolen, bag, and conviction of the offender. (92/796.) Constable D. Burnett, Invercargill Police, has been awarded £2 by the master of the barque “ Waaland,” for arresting a deserter. (92/801.) Sergeant H. Clarke and Constables E. Mackay and L. McDonnell, Auckland Police, have been awarded £4 each for arresting four stragglers from H.M.S. “ Ringarooma.” (92/802.)

Constable H. G. Hunt, Ashburton Police, has been presented with a testimonial and a purse of sovereigns in recognition of his presence of mind and energy in suppressing a fire. (92/593.) Constable W. Warring, Soutlibridge Police, has been awarded £1 4s. 6d. from the Reward Fund for special services rendered in the detection and conviction of D. Crump, fined £5 and costs for illegally shooting native game. (92/799.) A record of merit has been noted in favour of Sergeant John Briggs, Christchurch Police, for his prompt action and presence of mind in rescuing a child that fell into the River Avon. (92/769.)
