Offences Not Otherwise Described.
Dargaville. —James Herbert, alias Whittle, is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Gaol for seven days, in default of paying £2 Bs. fine and costs, for larceny. Description: A native of Australia, a labourer, thirty-five years of age, sft. sin. high, slight build, sunburnt, lightbrown hair beard and moustache, cheeks shaved, scar over right eye and on left cheek (see Police Gazette , 1881, page 1G5); dressed in dirty light-coloured-tweed suit and soft-felt hat. He left Helensville on the 24th November last by train for Auckland, where he is known as a bottle-gatherer. May go to the Hawke’s Bay District and live with Maoris.
Auckland. James and .Samuel Givin (brothers) are charged, on warrants issued by the Helensvnle Bench, with having made use of obscene language on/ board the s.s. “ Kina,” between Helensville and Darga/ille, on the Ist ultimo. Description: Supposed Irish, gum-diggers. James is forty-four years of age, sft. 7£in. high, medium build,
full sandy beard whiskers and moustache;' wore a blackserge suit and soft black-felt hat. Samuel is forty-six years of age, sft. lOin. high, medium build, full brown beard whiskers and moustache turning grey; dressed in blackserge suit and soft grey-felt hat. They are supposed to have gone to some of the gumfields in the Auckland District.
Pahiatua.— Patrick Madden and— Price are charged on with having, on the Gth ultimo, assaulted George y Thomas, with intent to commit a felony. Description : Madden is a native of the colony, twenty-six years of age, about sft. 9in. high, dark hair, small dark moustache only, very swarthy complexion, sallow appearance, smart active build ; dressed in dark coat, liglit-coloured-tweed trousers, and soft-felt hat; was seen in the Mangatainoka bush, near Pahiatua, on the 10th ultimo. Price is twenty-five or twentysix years of age, about sft. 7in. high, fair complexion, small fair moustache only, peculiar sullen expression in eyes, stout active square build, light hair; dressed in dark coat, light-coloured-tweed trousers, and soft black-felt hat. Said to have recently arrived from Christchurch.

Greymouth. —Frederick Smith, charged with false pretences on Robert Reay, has been arrested by Constable J. Watt, Ahaura Police, and released on six months’ probation. Offender’s real name is Frank Silvy.
(See Police Gazette, 1891, page 209.) Wellington. —“ Podge ” Read, charged with wilfully damaging the property of Annie Cunningham, has been arrested by Constable F. O’Leary, Masterton Police, and committed for trial. Offender is identical with Charles Brown, alias Robinson. (See Police Gazette, 1891, page 213.)
Auckland. —H. F. Anderson (name probably assumed) is charged on warrant with having, on the 21st ultimo, obtained from Jagger and Parker, Grey Street, two files, a hammer, and knife, by falsely representing to the shop-boy that he was authorised by Mr. Jagger to receive them. Offender is about twenty years of age, sft. Gin. high, medium build, fair complexion, sandy moustache. Supposed identifiable.
Dargaville.— At 9 p.m. on the 26th ultimo, the headlight of a railway-engine, near Rotu Station, was maliciously broken with a stone and damaged to the extent of £5 10s. The property of the Railway Commissioners.
Wellington. —Arthur Floyd, alias George Morgan, alias William Anderson, alias Price, is charged on warrant with being found by night, without lawful excuse, in the Cambridge Hotel, with intent to commit a felony. Description: A native of Tasmania, a tanner, thirty-one years of age, sft. 3in. high, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1891, page 177.) Photographed at Wellington on the 19th April, 1890. Offender was discovered by the licensee, Annie Lewis, at about 1 a.m. on the Gth instant, concealed in one of the rooms ; he escaped by violently assaulting the barman, F. Smith, for which offence a warrant has also been issued.
Auckland. —A man, name unknown, about fifty years of age, medium height and build, full ruddy face, grey beard and moustache, is charged with having, on the 2nd instant, at the Ellerslie Racecourse, attempted to utter a counterfeit sovereign to John Adams, at the totalisator.
