Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Willie George is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, at Petone, Wellington, since the 29th April last. Description : English, a sailor or labourer, fifty-two years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, fair complexion, light brown hair whiskers and moustache (whiskers cut short), blue eyes, large prominent nose, full features, some front teeth missing; anchors, &c., tattooed on arms; short quick walk, swings his arms very much ; dressed in blue-serge suit and soft-felt hat. Worked at Edward Barber’s, Petone, as gardener, and was seen at the last sittings of the Supreme Court, Wellington.
David Morrison is charged, on warrant issued by the Reefton Bench, with having deserted his wife, at Reefton, since the 25th April last. Description: Scotch, a labourer and miner, about forty years of age, about sft. 7in. high, dark complexion, dark-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache, hair and whiskers turning grey; supposed dressed in dark-tweed clothes and hard-feft hat with crape band. Ho spoke of going to Westport to seek work, but cannot be found there.
James McMaster is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, made in November, 1887, to pay 2s. 6d. per week towards the support of each of his four children. Description: Irish, a labourer, forty-one years of age, about 6ft. high, slender build, stoops slightly, slovenly appearance, sandy beard whiskers and moustache, eyes inclined to be red ; fond of drink and frequenting publichouses. He was £39 10s. in arrears on the 20th ultimo.
