to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures, under “The Weights and Measures Act, 1868,” for the County of Vincent and for the Boroughs of Alexandra and Cromwell, vice Constable Nolan.

Clerks of Courts appointed

Department of Justice, Wellington, 26th January, 1891. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable Timothy O’Rorke to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s and Warden’s Courts, and Receiver of Gold Revenue and Mining Registrar, at Ross, and to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Ross, from the 26tli instant, rice Constable F. O’Donovan, transferred; and Acting Sergeant Daniel Hannan to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Otaki, and to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Horowhenua, from the 23rd instant, vice Constable T. O’Rourke, transferred.

Licensing Districts altered. (1.5.) ONSLOW, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS by the sixth section of “ The Licensing Act, 1881,” it is enacted that the Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the commencement of the said Act, by Proclamation in the Gazette , from time to time define districts to be licensing districts under the said Act, and from time to time may alter and redefine the boundaries of the same : And whereas it is expedient to alter and redefine the boundaries of the Districts of Lower Hutt and Epuni: Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, alter and redefine the boundaries of the said districts, which shall henceforth be those described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE Lower Hutt.

All that area known as the Borough of Lower Hutt, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 10, of the 29th January, 1891. Epuni. All that area known as the Riding of Epuni, as described in the Neiv Zealand Gazette No. 60, of the 29th June, 1883 ; and the Riding of Wainniomata, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 63, of the 28th November, 1876: exclusive of the Boroughs of Lower Hutt and Petonc. Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley, of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and of West Clandon in the County of Surrey ; Baron Cranley, of Imbercoiut; Baronet; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and ViceAdmiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at i Wellington, this third day of February, in the ' year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one.

Altering Boundaries of Districts under 11 The Supreme Court Act, 1882."

At the Government House, at Wellington, this third day of February, 1891.

Present: His Excellency the Governor in Council,

TT 7HERE A S by section twenty of “ The Supreme Court V V Act, 1882 ” (hereinafter termed “ the said Act”), it is enacted that the Governor in Council may from time to time, for the purposes of the said Act, divide the colony into districts, and alter the limits of such districts from time to time as occasion may require: And whereas by an Order in Council bearing date the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eightythree, and made under the provisions of the said Act, the colony was divided into districts, and the limits of such districts therein defined : And whereas by an Order in Council dated the sixteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, the limits of the Northern and Wellington Districts so defined were altered and redefined : And whereas it is expedient to further alter the limits of the Northern and Wellington Districts so defined as aforesaid :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby alter the limits of the Northern and Wellington Districts so altered and redefined as aforesaid, and doth hereby declare that, from and after the twentythird day of February instant, the limits of the said districts shall, for the purposes of the said Act, be those respectively described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE. Northern District.

All that portion of the Colony of New Zealand bounded towards the north-east and south-east generally by the ocean; towards the south by the 39th parallel of south latitude to the Wanganui River; thence again towards the south-east by the Provincial District of Wellington; and towards the south-west generally by the ocean. Wellington District.

All that portion of the Colony of New Zealand bounded towards the north generally by the Provincial District of Auckland ; towards the south-east and the south-west generally by the ocean ; and towards the north-west generally by the Provincial District of Taranaki : together with the Chatham Islands and islands adjacent thereto.

Registrar of Births and Deaths appointed.

Colonial Secretary’s Office, Wellington, 2nd February, 1891. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Florence O'Donovan to be Registrar of Births and Deaths, and also to be Vaccination Inspector, for the District of Waimea, vice Daniel Hannan. This appointment takes effect on and from the 29th January, 1891.

Sergeant William McLeod to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures, under “ The Weights and Measures Act, 1868,” and the Acts amending the same, for the Counties of Southland, Wallace, Fiord, and Stewart Island, and for all boroughs therein, vice Sergeant Macdonell; also to appoint Sergeant Ewen Macdonell co be an Inspector of Weights and Measures, under the said Acts, for the County of Lake and Boroughs of Queenstown and Arrowtown, vice Sergeant W. McLeod.
