Commissioner of Police appointed. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Hume,
New Zealand Militia, to be Commissioner of Police, vice Major Walter Edward Gudgeon, transferred.

The sums of £8 18s. and £3, respectively, have been awarded by the Customs Department to Constable John Jeffries and ex-Constable J. F. Palamontain, Charleston and Denniston Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the prosecution of J. Weir, of Cape Foulwind, convicted for breaches of “ The Beer Duty Act, 1880.”
The sum of £1 has been awarded by the Otago Acclimatisation Society to Sergeant Christopher Conn, Palmerston Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the detection and prosecution of Mohi te Koaki, fined £2 and costs for a breach of the regulations under “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,” for illegally having in his possession and offering a trout for sale.
Thf. sum of £1 10s. each has been awarded by the Customs Department to Constables Stephen Kelso and John Watt, Greymouth and Ahaura Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the prosecution of John Smith, of Ahaura, convicted for a breach of “ The Beer Duty Act, 1880.”
The sums of £5 and £3, respectively, have been awarded by the Customs Department to Constables Henry Fretwell and George McChesney, Gore Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the prosecution of R. Whittingliam, convicted for a breach of “The Beer Duty Act, 1880.”
