Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

William B. Kingswell, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee, at Winton, of about four hundred sheep, the property of William Robinson Perkins, was found drowned in the Yarra River, Melbourne, on the 9th ultimo.

Stolen on the 19tli or 20tli ultimo, from a paddock at South Featherston, a dark-brown light-draught- and saddlemare, aged, 14 hands high, blaze down face, a dent in nose, an old scar on off hind quarter, branded CB on off shoulder, shod all round ; the property of William Wilmshurst; value £l2. Identifiable. A young man, name unknown, dressed in light-tweed suit and soft black hat, was seen on the 22nd ultimo riding tbe mare on the Jolmsonville Road, in the direction of Wellington.

Stolen between the 25th October last and the 25th ultimo, from a paddock at Timaru, ten cross-bred long-wool ewes, branded VC and S on back ; the property of Henry Squires ; value £7. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen between the Bth ultimo and 2nd instant, from a paddock at Pollhill Gully, Wellington, a bay ponymare, four years old, twelve hands high, black points and black marks along the back ; the property of Captain John Coleman ; value £6. Identifiable.

About the 2Gth ultimo, at Otakelio, Taranaki District, two sheep, the property of John Kelland, value £1 45., were killed and skinned on his farm and the carcases stolen.

James Neary is charged, on warrant issued by the Wanganui Bench, with stealing, on or about the 25th September last, from a paddock at Karioi, Mnrimotu, an iron-grey hack mare, six years old, about 15 hands high, branded K over 1 on near shoulder ; the property of George Frederick Mason ; value £B. Identifiable. Description: A native of the colony, a horsebreaker, twenty-two years of age, about sft. Tin. high, stoutish build, freckled face, grey eyes, heavy eyebrows, brown hair, had been clean-shaved but he was then letting his whiskers, &c., grow ; dressed in greyisli-tweed suit. He exchanged the mare for two other horses with a Maori at Waimarino. Pie left Karioi about two months ago for Hastings, Hawke’s Bay District. He is identical with James Neary, who was sentenced at New Plymouth on the Ist May, 1882, to nine months’ labour for larceny. (See Police Gazette, 1882, pages 87 and 161.) He is also charged with stealing, on or about the sth October last, from a paddock at Karioi, Murimotu, a dark-chestnut mare, branded heart-shaped on near shoulder, foal at foot; the property of Edward Blackburn ; value £6. Identifiable. He exchanged the mare and foal for another horse with James Catherall, blacksmith, Hastings. Mr. Catherall took the mare and foal with him to Hastings, and was accompanied thither by the offender.

Supposed stolen, about the end of October last, from Tauranga, a roan mare, hack-breed, aged, about 15 hands high, branded SB on near shoulder, heavy black mane and heavy black tail cut short, shod all round ; the property of John Hollings Griffiths ; value £3. Identifiable.

William IP. Cameron is charged, on warrant issued by the Masterton Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, about May last, at Johnsonville, of a brown horse, branded A on near shoulder; the property of David Braid; value £2O. Identifiable. Description : Scotch, a labourer, about thirtyfive years of age, sft. 9in. or lOin. high, stout build, florid complexion, brown hair beard whiskers and moustache, rather bandy-legged, swaggering gait; wore dark-tweed clothes and hat of same material. He borrowed the horse from complainant, and it is supposed has sold him. He is supposed to have gone to the Mahikapawa Goldfields.

Stolen on the lOtli or 11th instant, from a paddock at Stonestead, Greytown, eight fat wethers, shorn, J firebrand on nose, a smear of red paint on back, dirty from burned legs; the property of H. H. Jackson; value Bs. 6d. each. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 21st ultimo, from Newmarket, Auckland, a black gelding, three years old, 15 hands high, slight Roman nose, long tail, unbranded and unshod, answers to the name Charley; the property of Robert Morgan ; value £lO. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the sth or 6th instant, from a paddock at Marton, a dark-bay buggy mare, dark points, aged, about 15 hands high, blaze down face, in good condition, unbranded, had two old shoes on (one fore and one hind); the property of Charles Storey ; value £2O. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen oh the 11th instant, from a paddock at Mount Cook Prison, Wellington, a dark-bay gelding, black points, aged, about 17 hands high, branded S on near shoulder, shod, bar-shoes on fore hoofs, saddle- and lightdraught breed ; the property of Major William Loveday; value £2O. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen about the 22nd September last, from Ngakaroa, near Ormond, a bay entire, hack-breed, three years old, star on forehead, branded OC on one of shoulders (not known which); and a bay gelding-pony, hack-breed, an old sore on side of wither, branded MT on near rump, and also branded on one of shoulders, but the brand is not known ; the property of Edward Devery; both value £9. Identifiable.
