Stolen during the night of the 20th January last, from Orari, Timaru District, two white swans, value £lO ; and five cygnets, now about ten weeks old, value £5 ; the property of A. R. Barker.
Stolen on the 6th or 7th ultimo, from off a McCormack reaper- and binder-machine, at Riversdale, Southland District, two chains, a knife, and the binder; the property of William Gilmour; value £4.
Stolen on the 28th January last, from the anteroom of the Lyceum Hall, Dunedin, a well-coloured meerschaum pipe, about sin. long, silver ferrule and amber mouthpiece, a flaw in front of bowl at stem, and a small hole at the end of mouthpiece; the property of Francis Shaw; value £l. Identifiable.

McAlpin, at Onehunga, has been recovered. It was found in the house of William Wade, who was arrested for stealing it, but the charge was dismissed.
Stolen about the stli ultimo, at Punihu, near Pungarehu, a coil of barbed wire, about 1401 b. weight, frame marked “ lowa barbed wire, FP & Co., No. 98 the property of E. H. Hunt; value £1 15s.
Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from a new building in Hawker Street, Wellington, a 12in. carpenters’ square, with “ T. Ward ” stamped on the brass of one of the fastenings ; the property of Thomas W. Ward; value about 3s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to two men, names unknown, who called at the building looking for work. First, about thirty-five years of age, about 6ft. high, slight build, dark hair, dark prominent moustache; wore dark clothes and soft hat. Second, about thirty-five years of age, sft. Bin. high, slight build. They are supposed to be new arrivals in Wellington.
Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from the forecastle of the steamer “ Jane Douglas,” at the Queen’s Wharf, Wellington, a five-cliambered muzzle-loading self-acting revolver, with ramrod attached ; the property of Henry Bryce ; value 10s. Identifiable
Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from the forecastle of the steamer “ Jane Douglas,” at the Queen’s Wharf, Wellington, a pair of lace-up boots, size 7, with lieel-tips ; the property of George Northcote ; value 12s. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 27tli January last, on board the steamer “ Mahinapua,” between Oamaru and Dunedin, a leather purse with two compartments and steel clasps, containing three £1 notes and a colonial-gold ring set with a dark oval stone, with a reindeer and three Latin words engraved thereon ; value £6 ; the property of William Cromer. Purse and ring identifiable. Suspicion attached to Henry Matthews, who is employed on board the steamer. Description: English, a sailor, twenty-seven years of age, sft. 6in. high, medium build, fair hair, clean-shaved except moustache. His wife and family live in Dunedin.
Stolen between the Ist December and the 31st January last, from St. Clair Baths, near Dunedin, two dozen and a half bathing-trunks, white material with marone-coloured bands, value £1 2s. 6d., some of them identifiable ; and one dozen and a half bath towels with three red narrow stripes along each, some of them are marked “ E. A., St. Clair Baths;” the property of Edmund Anscombe; value 18s. Marked towels identifiable.
Stolen on the 18th ultimo, between Smith Street and York Place, Dunedin, a silver lever hunting-watch, well worn, maker Staunton, London, number not known, spring of front case very weak, marks of the point of a knife are at the spring of the rim for holding the glass ; the property of William Young; value £4. Identifiable. The w’atcli was stolen while Mr. Smith was removing his furniture from Smith Street to York Place.
Stolen on the 18th ultimo, from the pocket of a pair of trousers, which were hanging in the Dunedin Iron and Woodware Company’s premises, Princes Street, Dunedin, a black-plusli purse, one compartment, broken brass clasps, containing 10s. in silver and three pawn tickets in the name of Frederick Carter, issued at Myers’s pawn office, Princes Street, for two silver rings and a gold scarf-pin ; value 135.; the property of Frederick Carter. Purse and tickets identifiable.
Stolen between 5 p.m. on the 12th and 9 a.m. on the 14th ultimo, from the boat-shed of Valentine Savage, Fenton Street, Parawai, Thames, about 9cwt. or lOcwt. of pig-iron, in pieces about 14in. long and 3Jin. square, one piece blackened from fire ; value £2. Identification doubtful.
Stolen between 5 p.m. on the 15th and 9 a.m. on the 17th ultimo, at Belfast, near Christchurch, two old cartwheels : one 4ft. lOin. high, painted brown, with two red lines on spokes, paint nearly worn off, wood worn under tire, tire projects, spokes and felloes broken in several places, no box in nave ; the other is 4ft. 9in. high, painted blue, with three yellow lines, the centre one the broadest, on spokes, a yellow flower painted on front of each spoke near the nave, spokes and felloes broken, no box in nave ; the property of Augustine William Swift; value £l. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 24th ultimo, on board the barque “ Mataura,” at Oamaru, an open-face English silver lever watch, “ Fog’s Patent, Cockermoutli, 808,” engraved on mside case, “ 808 ” are the three first figures of the number of the watch ;
a gold locket, with an anchor set in red stones on one side and a shield on the opposite side; a gold albert chain, cable pattern; a gold scarf-pin with open ring for head, and 6s. in silver; the property of John William Bell; value £ll 10s. Identifiable, except the money. Suspicion attached to two passengers by the steamer “ Mahinapua,” who left Oamaru by that vessel on the 24th ultimo for Dunedin.
