Escaped Prisoner.

Hunta te Ira is charged with having, at 9 a.m. on the 23rd ultimo, escaped from the custody of Acting-Sergeant Villars, at Awanui, Poverty Bay. Description: A Maori, a labourer, thirty-seven years of age, 6ft. lin. high, black hair, and brown eyes, HERAHENI tattooed on right arm, and EHINE and HJ on left arm. He was under committal for breaking and entering. He was sentenced at Gisborne on the 17th June, 1884, to twelve months’ labour for larceny. (See Police Gazette , 1885, page 78.)
