Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Arthur Francis is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from his apprenticeship with Walter Mitchell, at Wellington, on the Bth instant. Description: A native of the colony, an apprentice-boot-maker, fifteen years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, largo feet, brown eyes, broad flat nose; looks like a half-caste Maori; dressed in dark-brown-tweed suit, darktweed hat, and lace-up boots.
John Samuel Thorn is chared, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with disobeying an order to provide for the support of his children. Description : English, a bricklayer, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, red beard whiskers and moustache, right big toe double-jointed, caused by an accident. He may endeavour to leave the colony by one of the direct steamers. He was £6 in arrears on the 13th instant.
James Shearer is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting his wife and three children, at Wellington, since the 18th instant. Description : Scotch, a carpenter, thirty-six years of ago, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache. He is supposed to have gone to Blenheim.
John Atkinson is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with having insufficient lawful means of support, at Dunedin, on the 12th instant. Description: A native of the colony, a groom and jockey, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, fair hair, and slight fair moustache. He was summoned for the offence, but he did not appear.
Bridget Brosnan is charged, on warrant issued by the Riverton Bench, with deserting her child, at Riverton, on the 20th ultimo. Description : Irish, a domestic-servant, twentyone years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, slightly feckled, round features, dark hair; when last seen was dressed in dark clothes and white-straw hat. She was summoned for the offence, but she did not appear. She is said to be employed at Samuel Johnson’s publicliouse, Skippers, Lake District.
Steward Scott is charged, on warrant issued by the Russell Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the
Resident Magistrate’s Court, Russell, on the 14th instant, to answer a charge of disorderly behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. Description : Scotch, a carpenter, about forty-five years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair turning grey, whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, squints. Ho has gone to Auckland.
