Incendiarism.

On the morning of the 27th ultimo a fowlhouse in Melville Street, Dunedin, the property of Edward Aldridge, was maliciously set on fire, but the fire was discovered and extinguished before much damage was done.

On the 27th ultimo, at Hawkesbury Bush, near Hawkesbury, three stacks of oats, two stacks of wheat, and one stack of hay, value £2OO, the property of John Galbraith, were destroyed by fire, which, it is supposed, was maliciously caused. The stacks were not insured.

Between 10 p.m. on the 27th and 4 a.m. on the 28th ultimo, at Kingsdown, near Timaru, five stacks of oats, value £IOO, the property of Ralph Dynes, were maliciously set on fire. Some sheaves were taken from the top of one of the stacks and placed on the ground round the bottom of the stacks with the object of assisting the fire to spread more rapidly. The stacks were not insured.

About 7.30 p.m. on the 28th ultimo, at Yard Farm, Seafield, Ashburton, three stacks of wheat, the property of Daniel Brick, value about £l5O, were maliciously set on fire, by which they were destroyed. The stacks, were insured, but not for their full value.

On the 16th ultimo, at Lower Shotover, Otago, two stacks of barley, value £BS, the property of James Fox, were destroyed by fire, which, it is supposed, was maliciously caused. The stacks were not insured.

About 6.30 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo, at Wrey’s Bush, Southland, two stacks of oats, the property of Michael Prendeble, were maliciously set on fire, and damaged to the extent of about £IOO before the fire could be extinguished. The stacks were not insured.

On the morning of the 25th ultimo, at Nightcaps, Southland, eight stacks of oats, the property of Francis Cassidy and Kirkwood, were maliciously set on fire, by which they were destroyed. The stacks were insured in the South British Office for £240, which amount is considerably in excess of what they were worth.

About 6.30 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo, at Wrey’s Bush Southland, a stack of oats, value £25, the property of Patrick O’Maher, was maliciously set on fire, by which it was destroyed. The oats were not insured.
