Horse- and Cattle-Stealing

James McKenzie, alias McKay, is charged with stealing, in June last, at Waihao, Timaru District, a light-hack bay mare ; the property of George Loper. Description: Supposed labourer, eighteen or nineteen years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion and hair; wore a blue coat, grey - tweed trousers, and soft blaclc-felt hat. Identification doubtful. The mare has been traced by the police to the possession of Charles Morrison, platelayer, North Waitaki, who purchased the animal from W. Allen.

Supposed stolen between 5 p.m. on the 23rd and G a.m. on the 24th October last, from a paddock at Normanby, a thorough-bred bay gelding, hack - breed, eight years old, 141 hands high, black points, a cut-mark on near knee, no brand ; and a chestnut gelding, well-bred, hack-breed, ten years old, 13J hands high, short tail, a few white hairs on nose, no brand; the property of George Hall; value £SO. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the night of the 27th ultimo, from the Northcote Road, Papanui, a bay gelding, five years old, white blaze on forehead, very hairy fetlocks, one hind fetlock white, value £4O ; and a dark-bay draught mare, aged, white blaze on forehead, one hind fetlock white, had a sore shoulder, value £3O ; the property of Joseph Veitch and Thomas Mcllroy.
