Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
Henry Gregesen, an able seaman, is charged with deserting from the barque “ Cingalese,” at Lyttelton, on
the night of the 29th ultimo. Description : A Dane, about twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, sandy hair, clean-shaved except sandy moustache. Usually wears blue-cloth sac-suit and black-cloth cap with leather peak. Identifiable.
Thomas Newton, J. Bernston, H. Patschukat, W. Joyce, R. Edmensen, W. Smith, E. Lennon, W. Nelson, and J. Gratehead are charged with deserting from the steamer “ Coptic,” at Port Chalmers, on the night of the Ist instant. Description: Newton is Scotch, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair whiskers and moustache; Bernston is German, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair and moustache ; Patschukat is Russian Fin, twentyseven years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, dark hair and moustache ; Joyce is English, twenty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, very fair complexion, light hair and moustache ; Edmensen is English, thirty years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light-brown hair and moustache ; Smith is German, twenty-six years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair whiskers and moustache ; Lennon is English, thirty years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, fair hair, light moustache ; Nelson is English, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache ; Gratehead is English, thirty-eight years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, light hair and beard, slight cast in one eye. Identifiable. Supposed gone to Dunedin.
Patrick McMillan, an able seaman, is charged with deserting from the ship “ Jessie Readman,” at Port Chalmers, on the night of the 20th ultimo. Description: Scotch, about twenty-seven years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, dark sallow complexion, black hair, small darkbrown moustache, dark eyes, rather long straight nose. Identifiable. Supposed gone to Dunedin.
