Charles Hansen is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, at Wellington, on the 7th January last, of a skeleton cabinet sewingmachine, with five drawers in left side and a cupboard with two shelves on right side, maker White, No. 9 ; the property of F. J. W. Pear; value £l2. Identifiable. Description: A Scandinavian, a labourer and railway platelayer, about twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, fair hair beard whiskers and moustache. He has gone to Auckland.

Tariuha Piake is charged, on warrant issued by the Poxton Bench, with having, about the 21st April last, at Foxton, stolen a waterproof coat, since recovered ; value £2 ; the property of John Davies. Description: A Maori, sixty years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, grey hair whiskers and moustache.

A man, name unknown, is charged with stealing, on the 28th ultimo, from Dixon Street, Wellington, a Maori kit, containing a small vice, a screwdriver about 16 inches long, SE marked on both sides of handle, three chisels, three punches, and a hammer ; the property of Sylvester Egan; value £1 ss. Identifiable. Description : About fifty years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, long grey beard ; dressed in dark-tweed suit and black-felt hat. Identifiable.

William Jowett, alias Bill Edwards, is charged with stealing, on the 14th May last, from the picklinghouse of Charles Harris Crocker, at Dargaville, about 71b. corned beef, and a bullock’s tongue, since recovered ; value 6s. Description: English, a bushman and gum-digger, about fifty-two years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey, chin shaved; usually wears black sac-coat, grey-tweed trousers and vest, and black billycock hat; fond of drink. He is supposed to be employed in the bush or gum fields about Tairoa.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the College Grounds, Christchurch, a grey sac-coat and vest, a cheque for £7 145., a half-sovereign, 12s. in silver, and a silver lever huntingwatch, makers Rotherhams, London, No. “E. C. Studliolme ” engraved on inner side of outer case, a steel albert guard, long-link pattern, with silver quoit, attached; the property of E. C. Studholme; watch and chain value £7 10s., and identifiable. The coat and cheque have since been recovered. Also stolen at the same time and place a grey sac-coat, since recovered; value £2; the property of J. P. Hargreaves.

Stolen on the 20th or 21st ultimo, from the fowlhouse of Thomas Mason, Sawyer’s Bay, near Port Chalmers, six white Aylesbury ducks ; value 18s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen during the night of the 18th instant, from the clothes-line of Michael J. Godby, at Timaru, three linen sheets, marked G with red cotton on right corners ; a white honeycomb counterpane, and a calico nightshirt; value £1 15s. Sheets identifiable.

Stolen during May last, at Wyndham, a 370-gallon galva-nized-iron water-tank, 4 feet 2 inches high by 4 feet 3 inches in diameter, secured with screws, bottom soldered on inside and outside, a crown on one side, with some reading below it, a pipe at side, which is slightly bruised, handle of tap comes off ; the property of the Southland Education Board ; value £2 10s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen between the 14th and 17th ultimo, from a shed at Waimakariri Gorge Bridge, Canterbury, a ratcliet-brace, 12 inches long; the property of the Government; value £lss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 14th ultimo, at Arrowtown, a new bullockhide saddle, maker Moore, Dunedin, ornamental stamp on each side of pommel, large knee-pads, round irons, new stirrup-leathers, two new white-web girths, value £4 10s.; a nearly-new bullock-liide saddle, maker Moore, Dunedin, ornamental stamp on each side of pommel, round irons, and leather girth, value £4 ; and a new single-rein bridle, value J.os.; the property of Henry Graham. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 24th ultimo, from Skull Gully, Wainuiomata, Wellington District, a surveyors’ tripod, one leg about 2 inches shorter than the others; and a box, 15 inches square, containing a theodolite ; makers, Troughton and Simms, London; the property of Edwin James Campion ; value £35. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th or 18th ultimo, from a clothes-line at Alexandra South, a chemise trimmed with crochet, a girls’ chemise trimmed with muslin frilling, and a pair of girls’ drawers trimmed with crochet ; all made of unbleached calico; the property of William Robertson ; value 12s. Identifiable. Also a pair of ladies’ drawers with three tucks at bottom, and a nightdress trimmed with embroidery at neck and front, both made of white calico ; the property of Emily Hill; value Bs. Identifiable.

Identifiable.

Stolen on the 15th or 16th ultimo, from a box on board the steamer “Doric,” at Auckland, an open-faced silver Geneva watch, maker’s name and number not known, a gold chain, and a silver chain; the property of Henry Barnaby; value £5. Chains identifiable. Suspicion attached to a stowaway who arrived by the steamer. Description : About 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, very pale, cross-eyed ; dressed in blue-cloth suit.

Stolen on the 29th or 30th April last, from a shed at the wharf, Karamea, Westport, two kegs of butter, one containing about 871 b. fresh butter, and the other about 1001 b. salt butter, kegs branded C on top and sides ; the property of John Curtin ; value £lO. Kegs identifiable.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from off a coach at Featlierston, a nearly-new black mackintosh overcoat, small size, check lining, a black-cloth button sewn on outside under left arm; the property of Charles Henry Lowe; value £2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was seen with a coat answering the description of the one stolen. Description: About thirty years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion; dressed in dark clothes.
