Inquest.
An inquest was held on the 26th ultimo, at the Puki-iviti Hotel, Shag Point, by J. W. Murdock, Esq., Coroner, on the body of a man, name unknown, who was found drowned in the Shag River, at Shag Point, on the 24th ultimo, when the following verdict was returned: “ That deceased met his death by drowning in the Shag River on the 24-th ultimo, but how he got into the water there is no evidence to show.” Description : Supposed a sailor, between forty-five and fifty years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, full face, large nose, brown hair, grey whiskers and moustache ; was dressed in double-breasted diagonal black sac-coat, bound with black braid, four outside pockets, dark-moleskin trousers considerably worn at bottoms, striped-cotton shirt, sheplierds’-plaid necktie with large black-and-white spots, and blucher boots without nails.
