Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
Charles Anderson is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting from the barque “C. A. Littlefield,” at Lyttelton, on the 13th instant. Description: A German, an able seaman, • twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, light-blue eyes, fair hair, a little fair down on upper lip, no whiskers ; dressed in blue-cloth suit, blue-fiannel shirt, soft black american hat, and elastic-side boots. A reward of £2 is offered for his arrest.
John Johnson is charged with deserting from the ship “Sam Mendell,” at Port Chalmers, on the 14th instant. Description : A native of the Island of St. Vincent, a coloured man, thirty-eight years of age, 6 feet high, slight build, black hair, clean-shaved, pockpitted ; an able seaman.
James Eason, F. Johnson, and William Davis, seamen, are charged with deserting from the ship “ City of Lahore,” at Port Chalmers, during the night of the 19th instant. Description : Eason is Scotch, thirty-one years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, grey eyes, dark-brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache. Johnson is a German, thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, light hair and complexion, sandy whiskers, chin shaved. Davis is Scotch, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, whiskers of short growth.
James Kingsland is charged with deserting from the ship “ Timaru,” at Port Chalmers, during the night of the 21st instant. Description: English, thirty years of age, 5 feet
9 inches high, rather stout build, fair fresh complexion, light hair, a few straggling hairs on face, deep scar across one side of face. A reward of £5 i 3 offered for his arrest.
David Hughes is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the ship “ Piako,” at Wellington, during the night of the 25th instant. Description : English, an able seaman, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, hazel eyes, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except small dark moustache ; supposed to be dressed in blackcloth paget-coat, dark trousers, and black-cloth cap with peak. May have gone to the Lower Hutt.
