Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
James Martin and Hugh Henderson, seamen, are charged, on warrant issued by the Campbelltown Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Clyde,” at Bluff Harbour, on the 27th ultimo. Description : Martin is Dutch, thirty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion and hair, sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in blue-dungaree jumper, tweed trousers, black-felt hat, and Wellington boots generally worn outside trousers; speaks good English. Henderson is Scotch, thirty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, blue eyes, sharp features, ugly expression of countenance, dark hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore dark coat. It is supposed that Martin left by the schooner “Augusta” for Hokitika, and that Henderson has gone to Stewart Island.
Edward Smith and Robert Skils, able seamen, are charged, on warrants issued by the Campbelltown Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Clyde,” at Bluff Harbour, on the 4th instant. Description : Smith is English, twenty-three years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build, fair complexion and hair, no hair on face, sharp features, rather large Wellington nose. Skils is a native of London, twenty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, heard, whiskers, and moustache; woi’e dark-tweed suit, hard blackfelt hat, and elastic-side boots.
