James Beal is charged, on warrant issued by the Palmerston Bench, with deserting his wife and child at Palmerston South since the 30th ultimo. Description : Scotch, a sailor and labourer, age not stated, 6 feet high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown bair, whiskers, and moustache, nose broken and hollow in centre, slightly lame in left leg, middle finger of left hand crooked ; wore dark-tweed coat, light-tweed vest, dark-striped trousers, white-felt hat, and elastic-side boots; carried a red-quilt swag with white double blanket. Charles Teavendale is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with failing to provide his wife and two children with adequate means of support at Kaiapoi Island since the 4th January last. Description: Scotch, a farmlabourer and prize-ploughman, forty years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, fair hair, sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache, scar on forehead, middle finger of one of his hands crooked ; wore dark-tweed suit and soft black-felt hat. It is supposed he has gone to Waimate, where a brother of his lives.

John Hefferman is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with disobeying an order, since the 23rd ultimo, to pay £1 per week towards the support of his wife and family at Wellington. Description : Irish, a hawker, thirty-six years of age, but looks older, 6 feet * inch high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, large nose, brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, worn short, stooped, and walks with his head down ; wore light-grey tweed suit, hard round black hat, and blueher boots, had a white oilskin coat. Charles Mellish, alias Millars, is charged, on warrant of commitment to gaol for fourteen days, issued by the Hamilton Bench, in default of paying a fine of 40s. and 18s. costs, for a breach of the railway by-laws committed at Hamilton in March last. Description : English, a gum-digger and bushman, about thirty-four years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 8 or 9 stone weight, small eyes, brown hair, small fair whiskers, no beard, no moustache, good-looking, pleasing manner; usually wears grey-tweed suit and grev-quilted-tweed hat, smart tidy appearance, fond of frequenting publichouses and billiardrooms. He left the Waikato District about the end of May last for the north of Auckland.

Daniel James Eraser is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with deserting his wife at Invercargill since the 6th October last. Description: Scotch, a labourer, fortytwo years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higli, rather stout build, very dark complexion and hair, dark-reddish beard, whiskers, and moustache, black eyes, pleasant looking, scar on bridge of nose, top of first finger of left hand split, fond of driuk. He may have gone to Timaru.

Richard Carter is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with deserting his wife at Auckland since the 6th instant. Description : English, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, dark complexiou, dark-brown eyes, black hair, clean shaved except small dark moustache, sharp features, rather good-looking. He informed his wife that he intended to go to America.

Daniel Burke is charged, on warrant of commitment to gaol for fourteen days, issued by the Wanganui Bench, in default of paying a fine of £1 and 10s. costs, for bathing within view of a public street, at Wanganui, ou the 10th March last. Description : Irish, a labourer and cook, about fifty years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark swarthy complexion, brown hair, grey sunken eyes, and large broad nose. He is very expert at cutting or writing on glass; frequents hotels (See Police Gazelle, 1879, page 169.) He was tried at Auckland for murder some years ago.

IviTUA is charged, on warrant issued by the Cambridge Bench, with having committed a breach of the peace at Cambridge on the Bth instant. Description : A Maori, about twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, thin whiskers and moustache ; good-looking. -Wore dark-tweed suit and hard black-felt bat with green veil. Supposed to have gone to Rotorua, where it is said he is well known. He was summoned for the offence, but did not appear.
