Newton H. Axlum is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with having, on the 2nd February last, at Christchurch, induced Edward George to accept a bill for £2O by false pretences. Description: English, a clerk, about twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, medium build, very sallow complexion, thin fair hair, small fair whiskers, and moustache, good address; usually wears blue-serge suit and small quilted grey-tweed hat. He was last heard of at E. A. Fields, Seafield, near Ashburton.

About 1 o’clock on the morning of the 29th ultimo a man, name unknown, was found in the dwelling of John Graham, Stuart Street, Dunedin. Description : Short stout build ; wore dark clothes, and it is supposed had his face blackened.

About 10 a.m. on the 31st ultimo the points of the Ocean Beach Railway-line, near the Forbury Racecourse, were wilfully altered, which caused the 10.30 a.m. passenger train from Dunedin to Forbury to run off the rails of the line.

On the morning of the 31st ultimo a sleeper was maliciously placed across the rails of the railway-line near YVaipahi, which threw two of the ballast-engine trucks off the line, one of which was broken. A workman employed on the line suspected.

Henry Watkins is charged, on warrant issued by the Fryerstown Bench, Victoria, with having, on the sth July last, at Fryerstown, committed rape on Mary Ann Ryan, his step-daughter, under twelve years of age.
