Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Otago Police Gazette, 1876, page 85.) William McKay is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with deserting his wife and four children, at Dunedin, on the 20th of August, 1876. Description : Scotch, a seaman, about forty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, sandy hair, slight whiskers and moustache, brown eyes. He is likely to be employed as master or _ mate of a coastal, sailing vessel.
John McCarthy i 3 charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with refusing to provide for the support of his illegitimate male child, at Wellington. Description : Irish, a miner, forty-three years of age, 6 feet high, stout build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, sandy-brown beard, whiskers, and moustache mixed with grey, deep set eyes, heavy eyebrows; usually wears dark-tweed suit and soft black-felt hat. He had been on the West Coast Gold Fields for a number of years. Ho left Wellington about the 31st ultimo for Christchurch.
Robert Marshall is charged, on warrant issued by the Napier Bench, with deserting his wife and seven children, at Napier, since the 15 th of December, 1877. Description: Irish, a labourer, forty-one years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout square build, large mouth, Roman nose, thick lips; when last seen wore largo sandy whiskers, no moustache. In Juno last he was in the employment of a Mr. A. W. J. Reilly, at Collingwood.

Antonio Nicholson, charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his children in the Naval Training School, has been arrested by Constable Martin Doherty, Wanganui Police.

The warrant issued for the arrest of John Mathew, charged with failing to support his wife and five children, has been cancelled, and another warrant issued for his arrest.
JonN Mathew is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with failing to provide his wife and two children with adequate means of support, at Christchurch, since the 11th instant. Description: Scotch, a painter, forty years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fair bushy whiskers turning grey, very bald, slightly pock pitted ; wore black-cloth paget coat, tweed trousers and vest, and hard black-felt hat, carried a large blue overcoat ; had been in the 65th Regiment. He left Christchurch on the lltli instant, supposed for Lyttelton.
