Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
David Hawthorn is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with disobeying an order made by the Resident Magistrate at Auckland to pay 10s. per week towards the support of his child, Thomas Hawthorn. Description : Supposed English, a groom.and gardener, twenty years of age, medium height, rather stout, fair complexion, light brown hair, clean shaved except moustache, long hook nose with a scar on bridge.
Frank Irwin is charged with having, on tho 21st ultimo, at Kowhai, near Newcastle, Auckland District, absconded from his apprenticeship to Messrs. Carpenter and Byron. Description : About fourteen years of age, dark fresh complexion ; wore blue serge jumper and trousers, and straw hat. He took with him a small swag containing a concertina, clothes, &c. He was apprenticed fronl the Kohimarama Naval Training School to Messrs. Carpenter and Byron.
William George Cunningham is charged, on warrant of arrest issued by the Christchurch Bench, in default of paying £8 Bs., due on the 31st ultimo, for tho maintenance of his wife and two children. Description: English, a labourer, twentyeight years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, square build, dark hair, scraggy whiskers and moustache, sharp nose, irregular teeth, dark eyes, rather bow-legged, active appearance; usually dressed in dark tweed suit, strapped trousers, and black billycock hat. Ho had been in the Canterbury Mounted Police. It is supposed he has gone to Oamaru. (See Police Gazelle, 1877, page 19.) Charles Townsend, charged with having deserted his wife at Oamaru, has been arrested by Sergeant William Beatty, Oamaru Police.
