Stolen about the 12th ultimo, from the stable of Sew Ilay, Stafford Street, Dunedin, a nearly new saddle, bullock hide seat, knee pads and skirts made with the flesh side of the leather on the outside, grain leather flaps, common stirrup leathers and irons, a martingale and an old double-rein bridle with common snaffle bit, one of the reins has been broken near the bit and mended with twine; value £lO. Identifiable.
A HAN, name unknown, is charged with having, on the 24th, ultimo, at Shag Point, Otago District, stolen a small Skye terrier slut, the property of Edward Gardener, value £5. Identifiable. Description: About thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, sandy hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache ; wore light coloured dirty suit and light felt hat; carried an old calico tent swag. He was seen carrying the dog near 'the railway line at Cardigan. He went towards Mocraki.
Stolen about the 15th ultimo, from a tent near Kihikihi, Auckland District, two nearly new draught harness collars with leather facings, two pair of plough chains 7 feet G inches long, two leather backhands, two pair of bright plough hames, a skeitli, and three swingle-trees ; the property of James Kennedy ; value £6 143. Gd. Collars identifiable. Suspicion attached to Maoris who reside in the neighbourhood.
Stolen on the 26th ultimo, at Tauranga, Auckland District, a blue cloth military tunic with luce frogs and barrel buttons, the property of E. Morris, value £3. Identifiable.
Stolen about the 30th ultimo, from the brickwork of a house in course of erection at the corner of Clarke and High Streets, Dunedin, five small pieces of sheet lead ; the property of Joseph Mair ; value 2s. 1 Identifiable.
Stolen about the 24th ultimo, from the brewery of Messrs. Theyers and Beck, Alexandra, Otago District, three bags of crystallized sugar, about 401 b. weight each, D. 15 burnt on bags ; value £3. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the Terminus Hotel stables, Oxford West, Canterbury District, a silver Geneva watch, maker, Grant, Melbourne, the name “ T. Burt” engraved on outside of case, value £3 10s; a silver guard, small round-link pattern, value 10s.; a pair of Bedford-cord trousers and a flannel' singlet, value 305.; the property of Thomas Burke. Watch identifiable.
(See Police Gazette, 1878, page 12.) Charles Ross, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee of a silver hunting watch, the property of Richard Butler, has been arrested by Constable W. J. G. Wheatley, Malvern Police, and sentenced to one month’s labour.
Stolen about the 19th ultimo, at Indea, near Tauranga, Auckland District, a large white boar, weighing about 3 cwt., blue skin marks on shoulders and hams ; the property of Thomas Corbitt; value £5. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from the clothes-line of Susan Dunlop, Saint Mary’s Road, Pousonby, Auckland, a pink skirt and a pink dress, consisting of skirt, pannier, and body ; value 20s. Identifiable.
