The landing jetty at the air base, Te Whanga Lagoon. "Plane day" (and "Boat day" at Waitangi) are notable events, when numbers of the settlers meet to chat, greet friends, and collect mail and stores. Ice cream for children and sausages for the family are delicacies which are dispensed on these rare and important occasions.
