Kimbolton-Kiwitea Y.F.C. Annual Dance

Kimbolton-Kiwitea Club.
X TOTED by all as the best yet, the VOTED by all as the best yet, the annual dance of the KimboltonKiwitea Club, held in the Kiwitea Hall, went with a swing from start to finish. Visitors from surrounding clubs, ' including Halcombe, Apiti, Pohangina, Waituna, Bunnythorpe, Kairanga, and Feildirig, combined with local . club members and friends to fill the hall and -to ensure the complete success of the dance. Messrs. Rich Thevenard and Stewart Craine were M.C.s. The excellent supper, which was provided by the local members of the W.D.F.U., to whom the club’s most grateful' thanks are recorded, contributed to the success of the evening. After supper the club chairman, Mr. H. Beard, welcomed the visitors, and gave an outline of the objects of the Young Farmers - . movement, among which, he said,, the holding of . these socials played- a part in club activities and helped.to make country life,more attractive. . He also thanked the members of the W.D.F.U. for their generous help. -■ - ; . Mr. Beard, said the club was ’ honoured by the presence of the Dominion president, Mr. E. W. Barnett, and his wife. ■ He congratulated Mr. Barnett on his election as the first active member to hold the position, and mentioned that this was the first Young Farmers’ Club social attended by the presidentsince his election' ' . ' . ' '
On. rising to speak, Mr. Barnett was greeted with enthusiastic applause, and was accorded musical honours. He congratulated the club on its successful and enjoyable dance. -. The members had always pulled their weight in all district activities, -he - said, whether sporting or otherwise. He mentioned especially the North Island tour. . If they and other, clubs continued to ; put the same energy into the movement, then his job as Dominion;President for the next 12 months would be greatly lightened. For the benefit of other - club secretaries who may be organising similar functions, a summary of the financial side may be of interest. All , club members contributed 1/- to cover the purchase of tea, sugar, bread, etc. Milk was provided by members with dairy herds. The takings were approximately £l9, of-which the orchestra, took £9, hire of hall £l, and sundries, novelties, streamers, etc. £l, leaving , a balance of £8 to augment club funds.
Members Married.
At the June, meeting of the club a presentation was made to two of the foremost members in view of their approaching . marriages— Mr. George Ritchie, who was secretary during the first two years' of the club’s life, -and . who was responsible for much of the ground work in establishing the club, and secondly, Mr. Harold
Beard, who took over the secretaryship from Mr. Ritchie, and who is chairman for this, the fourth; year of the club. Mr. A. Lawson, advisory president, made the presentations, and spoke of the good work cheerfully put into the club by these two active members. Both replied briefly, assuring members that they would continue to give the club their fullest support. At Mr. George Ritchie’s wedding, which took place the following . day, Mr. Harold Beard acted as best man. At Mr. Beard’s wedding the best man was Mr. Fred Stuckey, who was chairman of the club. during the year the bridegroom was secretary. ■ Both members will make their future homes in the Kimbolton, district.
Correspondence Courses
The attention of young farmers, whether attached to definite Clubs or < not, is drawn 'to the scheme recently started by the Correspondence School of- the Education Department. Courses ' may be ; taken in farm accounts, building construction, trade drawing, sheep farming, dairy husbandry, dairy science, fertilisers, pastures, soil science, agricultural botany, ; farm crops, pests, and diseases, as well as in the general educational subjects of a modern secondary school. A nominal fee of 5/- per term is charged. 1 . No preliminary examination requirement is set. Students at present enrolled vary widely in scholastic qualifications from Standard 4 passes to “Oxford Locals” and University degrees. '..'
