Y.F.C. Football Match at Manawatu Show

A RUGBY football match between A RUGBY football match between a team representing the Wairoa Young Farmers’ Club and a team picked from the clubs in the Manawatu district was played at the Manawatu Winter Show, Palmerston North, on Thursday, 15th June. The match, which created considerable interest and provided a great exhibition of Rugby, proved that country football can be both exciting and spectacular. ' Manawatu were the winners by 13 points to 5. The scorers for Manawatu were Jarvis and Law a try each, with Thompson converting both, and McKenzie a goal. For Wairoa, H. Brady scored and converted a try.

It 'is interesting to note that while neither team was at full'strength, both contained a large proportion of senior representative players The Wairoa forwards averaged 14 stone 1 lb., and the Manawatu forwards 14 stone 3 lb. In a closely contested “curtain raiser,” Manawatu Northern Clubs defeated Manawatu Southern Clubs by 8 points to 3.
