FOXTON RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL RACE MEETING.

Of the meetings to be held early in the New Year that of the Foxton Racing Club, to take place on the Foxton racecourse on January 22 and 24, is entitled to special attention from owners and trainers. The substantial sum of £3700 is being offered in prize money for the two days, which, for an annual fixture, is one of the most liberally endowed pro-i-rammes to be found anywhere in the Dominion. Not only are the open handicaps of a highly remunerative character, but the nine hack events are each worth 200sovs, and will prove a strong inducement to those with eligible charges to be represented at the fixture.

Chief in interest on the opening day is the Foxton Cup (Open), of 500sovs, one mile and a-quarter, while two other open handicaps are provided—the Anniversary Handicap, of 300sovs, six furlongs; and the Herrington Welter Handicap, of 300 sovs, seven furlongs, minimum weight,

In addition to the events mentioned, four hack flat events are included on the first day’s programme, as follows: Himatangi Hack Handicap, of 200sovs, six furlongs; Maiden Race, of 150sovs, seven furlongs, for horses that have never won a race of any description at time of starting, weight, 8.0; Awahou Hack Welter, of 200sovs, one mile and 100 yards; and the Marotiri Hack Handicap, of 200sovs, five furlongs and a-half. . The leading event on the second day will be the President’s Handicap (open), of SOOsovs, one mile and a distance, while other open events are the Wharangi Handicap, of 200 sovs, six furlongs, and the Moutoa Welter Handicap, of 200sovs, one mile and 100 yards. The remainder of the second day’s programme is devoted to hack events, details of which are as follows: Paraka Hack Hurdles, of 200sovs. 114 miles and 100 yards; Whirokino Hack Handicap, of 200sovs, six furlongs; Motuiti Maiden Race, of 150sovs, six furlongs, for horses that have not won a race of any description at time of starting, weight, 8.10; Carnarvon Hack Welter, of 200sovs, one mile and 100 yards; and the Apprentices’ Hack Handicap,of 200sovs, one mile and 100 yards, in which horses must be ridden by apprentices. Trainers should note that the club have 30 loose-boxes for the use of patrons. Nominations for all events are due with the secretary, Mr. L. R. Freeman, Box 13, Foxton, on Wednesday, January 5, at 8 p.m.
