ROTORUA RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The Rotorua Racing Club have received permission from the district committee of the Auckland Racing Club to .hold their annual meeting, which takes place on January 19, on the Claudelands racecourse, HamilDuring the visit of the Prince of Wales to Rotorua the racecourse at Arawa Park was the scene of the big Maori carnival arranged in honour of His Royal Highness, and in consequence of the wet weather experienced at the time the course was cut up to an extent which made it necessary for the officials of the racing club to seek a new venue for the holding of their approaching meeting. The coming fixture gives promise of proving the most successful in the annals of the club. The sum of £llOO and a cup valued at 45 guineas has been allocated in stake money for the eight events, and the attractive programme can be depended upon to draw an excellent response from hcrseowners. The principal event, the Rotorua Cup, of 250sovs and a silver cup valued at 45 guineas, presented by Mr. G'. W. Briggs, 11/,I 1 /, miles, will assuredly attract a record nomination in the history of the event, and the contest should be a memorable one. Three open sprint races are provided, viz., the Waimangu Handicap, of 125 sovs, five furlongs; Arawa Park Handicap, of 175sovs, one mile; and the Farewell Handicap, of 140sovs, six furlongs. In addition to the Hack Hurdles, of 120sovs, one mile and ahalf, three hack flat events figure on the programme, as follows: Maiden Handicap, of 85sovs, six furlongs, for horses that have not won a race exceeding 50sovs in value at time of entry; the Hack Welter Race, of 120 sovs, one mile; and the Mokoia Handicap, of 85sovs, seven furlongs, for horses that have not won a race exceeding the value of 50sovs at the time of entry. Nominations for all events are due with the race secretary, Mr. B. H. O’Meara, Box 56, Hamilton, or with Mr. H. H. Hayr, Auckland, or with the secretary, Mr. G. Hunt, Box 143, Rotorua, on Wednesday, December 22, at 5 p.m.
