TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

SPRING PROGRAMME. The spring racing campaign is now well advanced, and owners and trainers are busy making preparations for the remainder of the spring gatherings. The Tapakuna Jockey Club will hold their meeting on November 20 and 24, and the highly remunerative character of the stakes offered in connection with the sixteen events figuring on the varied programme will assuredly result in a sterling response from Auckland sportsmen, while southern owners are certain to be well represented at the fixture. The club has allocated the large sum of £6OOO in stakes, substantial increases having been made in the case of every event. Of this sum £3lOO will be distributed on the first day, and £2900 on the second. On the first day the chief attraction will be the Alison Cup Handicap, of 750sovs, one mile two fur-

longs and a-half, and a field of good size and quality can be depended upon to dispute supremacy in this important event. The juveniles are provided with an opportunity to annex a- valuable stake in the Cambria Handicap, of 500sovs, four furlongs, for two-year-olds, while the sprinters will be seen out in the Cheltenham Handicap, of 450sovs, six furlongs. Other flat events on the opening day are the Borough Handicap, of 350sovs, seven furlongs; Ngataringa Handicap, of 250sovs, seven furlongs, for all horses that have not won an advertised flat race of the value of 150sovs or races of the collective value of 400sovs at time of entry; and the Melrose Handicap, of 250 sovs, six furlongs, for horses that have not won an advertised flat race exceeding the value of 75sovs at time of entry. Two hurdle events are provided, the Tiri Handicap Hurdles, of 300sovs, one mile and three-quarters, and the Ponui Handicap Hurdles, of 250sovs, one mile and a-half. The St. Andrew’s Handicap, of 600 sovs, one mile and a furlong, will engage principal interest on the second day, and should attract a particularly strong field. The Rakino Handicap, of 500sovs, five furlongs, for two-year-olds, will be of special interest, and with a furlong further to go than on the first day the contest among the juveniles should be particularly keen. The Cautley Handicap, of 350sovs, six furlongs, and the Welter Handicap, of 400sovs, seven furlongs, furnish owners of sprinters with a double opportunity of securing excellent stakes, as there is an interval of five races between the events named. Two hack races are provided on the second day, the

Vauxhall Handicap, of 250sovs, five furlongs, for horses that have not won an advertised flat race exceeding 75sovs in value at the time of entry; and the Pupuke Hack Handicap, of 250sovs, seven furlongs, for all horses that have never won,, an advertised flat race of the value of 250sovs or races of the collective value of 500sovs at the time of entry. The Stanley Handicap Hurdles, of 250sovs, one mile ar.d a-half, for all horses that have not won an advertised hurdle race exceeding the value of 75sovs at time of entry; and the Kawau Handicap Hurdles, of 300sovs, one mile and three-quarters, complete the second day’s programme. Nominations for all events are due with the secretary, Mr. R. Wynyard, High Street, Auckland, on Friday, November 5, at 5 p.m.
