CANTERBURY TROTTING NOTES.

(From Our Christchurch Correspondent) Matters in connection with the New Zealand Trotting Cup remain very quiet. A few days ago, during the absence of his trainer in Auckland, Willie Lincoln struck himself badly,, and there is no chance of his sporting silk at the November meeting. Author Dillon and John Dillon, in B. Jarden’s stable, are both going on. the right way. The former has never been in better health, and it will take something pretty good to lower his colours in the big event of the year. Matchlight carries the confidenceof Bryce’s stable, and if the track, is at all holding he is sure to play his part well. a Reports from Oamaru credit Albert Cling with having got through a very satisfactory preparation. He is theone horse in the big race likely to better any of his previous efforts. At New Brighton Don Caesar and Mintson continue to go on the right way, but their prospects of seeing out a solid two miles do not seem at all favourable. Cathedral Chimes and Admiral Wood are in solid work at Oakhampton, and both will be raced in the leading harness events at the Cupmeeting. Sherwood and Oinako are both;

Standing up to their tasks at Canterbury Park. N. Price has the former as fit as he has ever been, and there can be no question as,to his staying the journey. His only trouble is a lack of brilliancy in the early stages.. Oinako has lately been causing his trainer some anxiety, and even if he goes to the post such an uncertain customer cannot be recommended for a race where the pace is on from start to- finish.-

That - great little pacing stallion Emilius was recently purchased' by Mr. Clarkson, and'is now one of the many good ones under J. Bryce’s care. He has speed enough to win any race he is started for when he can be induced to make the best use of it. A. Fleming’s • Trotting * Cup candidate, Erin’s Queen, is particularly well just at present, as are Trix Pointer and Agathos,'both of whom are trained at Addington.
