ASHHURST-POHANGINA RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. Special interest is being centred by owners and trainers in the Ash-hurst-Pohangina Racing Club’s annual meeting, which is to take place on the Ashhurst racecourse on .Wednesday, November 19. The principal event is the Ashhurst . Cup (open) of 300sovs, one mile and a-quarter, which is certain to induce a particularly good entry: The Pohangina Handicap (open) of 170sovs, can confidently be expected to attract a useful field of sprinters, while the remaining open event is the Raumai Welter Handicap of 140sovs, seven furlongs. Hacks are especially well catered for, as in addition to the Hack Hurdles Handicap of 130sovs, one mile and a-half, the following events are included on the attractive programme: Flying Hack Handicap
of HOsovs, six furlongs; Komako Welter Hack Handicap of 120sovs, seven furlongs; Maiden Stakes of lOOsovs, for three-year-olds and upwards that have never won a race at the time of starting, five furlongs; and the Manawatu Gorge Hack Handicap of 130sovs, one mile. There is every prospect of the forthcoming meeting at Ashhurst proving a record one in the history of this old-established club. The officials are sparing no effort to cater in the best manner possible for their many patrons. One of Saywell’s latest improved starting barriers has been installed by the club, while the track has ' been rendered in tip-top order, a fact that will be greatly appreciated by trainers who contemplate patronising the fixture. A final reminder may be necessary to the effect that nominations for all events and entries for the Maiden Stakes close with the secretary, Mr. A. W. Trass, Ashhurst, on Saturday, November 8, at 9 p.m.
