MUSIC NOTES.
(By
“G” String.)
Mr. E. J. Imrie, who died recently in England at the age of 73, was one of the original members of the Carl Rosa Grand Opera Company. He was connected with it for 42 years and studied 130 operas. The Frank Rigo Grand Opera Company, it is stated, dropped £lOOO during its recent Melbourne season. Signor Capelli, the grand opera tenor, was at latest advices appearing at the Brisbane Royal under the Fuller management. Messrs. Enoch and Sons, the wellknown London music publishers, recently instituted a series of popular Saturday afternoon concerts at the Central Hall, Westminster, at which many of their publications could receive a hearing under favourable conditions. The first concert was of especial interest to Australians and New Zealanders, in that an Australian composer, Miss May H. Brahe, and a couple of well-known Australian artists had places on the programme. The latter were Miss Una Bourne (pianist) and Miss Elsa Stralia (soprano).
