EGMONT RACING CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. The Egmont Racing Club will hold their summer meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, February 12 and 13, at (Hawera, when a splendid programme of sixteen events will engage the attention of the club’s patrons. On the first day the Egmont Cup, of 600sovs., IV 2 miles, will constitute the piece de resistance of the afternoon, and the prospects of a strong field contesting the race are regarded as highly favourable. Next in importance on the opening day comes the Egmont Stakes, six furlongs, and as 39 horses remain in the event after the declaration of the second forfeit, . Desert Gold and Gloaming being among the number, there is good reason to anticipate a representative field being on hand to dispute supremacy in this much-coveted classic. The Flying Handicap, of SOOsovs., six furlongs, will undoubtedly attract a good class of sprinter. ’ while the Ohawe Hurdles, of 185sovs., 1% miles, can also be depended upon to receive the attention of owners who have eligible candidates. The Whareroa iVelter, of 200sovs., seven furlongs,

and the Ladies’ Purse (hack), of 120 sovs., B¥ 2 furlongs, should meet with a good response .from owners, and with the Mere Mere Hack Flat, of 150 sovs., and the Waipapa Hack Flat, of 150sovs., seven furlongs, complete the first day’s programme. The mam attractions on the second day will be the Atkinson Memorial Stakes, of 500sovs., 1% miles, and the Hawera Stakes, of 500sovs., one mile. The former race will give the Egmont Cup candidates a further chance to capture a valuable handicap at the meeting. The Hawera Stakes should provide a stirring race, as 26 candidates still remain in the mile event after the declaration of the second forfeit, Desert Gold, Gloaming, Parisian Diamond, Killowen, Heathercote and Croesus being among the number. The Waimate Handicap, of 25050v5., six furlongs, and the Okaiawa Hurdles, of 150sovs., li/2 miles, are certain to be well patronised by owners, while- the Normanby Welter, of 200sovs., B¥ 2 furlongs, is a handicap which is invariably appreciated on the programme. The Farmers’ Plate Handicap, of 120sovs., one mile and a distance, the Inaha Hack Flat, of 150sovs., six furlongs. and the Maiden Hack Scurry, of 120sovs-, five furlongs, make up the remainder of the second day’s programme. Nominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr. V. B. Stratton, Box 51 Hawera, on Friday, January 17, at 8 p.m.
