HE KNEW.
A Scottish minister was once busy catechising his young parishioners before the congregation, when he put his usual first question to a girl whose father kept a public house: “What is your name?” No reply. The question having been repeated the girl replied: “Nane o’ your fun, sir; ye ken my name weel enough. D’ye no’ say when ye come tae oor house at nicht, ‘Betty, bring me some toddy?” The congregation, forgetting the sacredness of the place, broke into a laugh, and the parson looked daggers.
