AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

The Auckland Racing Club will hold their annual general meeting at the Chamber of Commerce on, Monday evening next (August 7), when the chairman of committee (Hon. Mitchelson) will present the following annual report to members: —- “Your committee have much pleasure in presenting the statement of accounts for the twelve months ending the 30th June, and have to con-

gratulate members upon the continued success which has attended the club. Owing to the continuance of the European War it was deemed inadvisable to materially increase the amount of stakes, but certain additional items for the classic races having previously been allocated, the total (£42.550) exceeds that of the previous season by £llOO. In addition to £25,289 15s. Bd. paid over to the Government in the shape of taxes on tctalisator, gate receipts, dividends and stakes, the club has contributed to various patriotic funds the sum of £3164 Bs., which, added to similar conations last season, gives a total of £5020 10s. since the war began. The amount expended on improvements, chief of which was the widening of the steeplechase track, is much less than usual, after writing off this, together with the sum of £2832 2s. 6d. for depreciation. a balance of £l4O 17s. sd. remains to be carried to Capital Account. The debt is reduced by just under £2OOO. The Hon E. Mitchelson, Mr. H. T. Gorrie and Messrs. Jones, McCallum and Wynyard being the only nominees for the offices of president, vice-president and three seats on the stewards respectively, they

will be declared duly elected. Messrs. Bradley, Earl, Nicholson, Nolan and Patterson retire by rotation from the committee, and with the exception of the last-named offer themselves for re-election, the other candidates being Messrs. McCallum, Wynyard, and Sir Robert Lockhart.”
