CHORTLE’S HAWKE’S BAY CUP TIME.
We were loth to believe that Chortle had run a mile and a-half in the Hawke’s Bay Cup in 2min 32 2-5 sec, with which he was credited, not because we doubted his ability to do so, but because the time he took to run the first seven furlongs according to some watch holders, would have necessitated him running the last five in time that has not yet been accomplished over that distance in Australasia. It is now claimed that the official time was 2min 35 sec.
