PAHITUA RACES.
FIRST DAY. A large attendance, splendid racing, and favourable weather were the characteristics of the opening day of the annual meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club. The amount put through the machine was £7065, and there were no bookmakers. Results were as follow:— HACK HURDLES.. Waikaraka 1 Milliennjal 2 Dorando 3 Also started: Canadian, Lebeccio, Ribstone Pippin, Ultimatum. Waikaraka led all the way, and won easily by two lengths. Time, 3min 2sec. RAILWAY HANDICAP. Six furlongs. Burton 1 Splash 2 Simplex • • 3 Also started: Lord Soult and Sunbonnet. Won easily by two lengths. Time, Imin 15 3-ssec. FLYING HACK HANDICAP. Five furlongs; Tuiloch Ard 1 Magneto .......... 2 Rurik 3 Also started: Lady Doris, Puketotara, Odessa, Gaby, Avaunt, Coronella, Nivera. Won all the day by a clear length. Time, Imin 3sec. WELTER HACK HANDICAP. One mile. Julian 1 Mediterranean 2 Brown Trout 3 Also started: The Rover, Composed, Contour, Vite, Happy New Year, Impossible. A close finish, with a head between the placed horses. Time, Imin 44sec. PAHIATUA CUP. One mile and aquarter. Passive 1 Ariom 2 First Consul 3 Also started: Waiwareware, Mataari, Teotane, Waipunui, Succession. Won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 2min 9 l-ssec. TRIAL HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs. Ahuapai 1 Jolly Maiden 2 Mescal and Foreshot (dead-heat) .... 3 Also started: Sunset, Lifeline, Overheard, Matapouri, Maniton, Florence Nightingale, Rumble. Won comfortably by two lengths. Time, Imin 17sec. 'TELEGRAPH HACK HANDICAP. Five furlongs. Seaweed 1 Zealand 2 Leahora 3 Also started: Rurik, Lochiela, Portcullis, Eva, Harrington, Merry Widow. Won by two lengths. Time, Imin 2%sec. KONINI WELTER HANDICAP. Seven furlongs. Captain Bell 1 Aimwell 2 ■Epsom Downs 3 Also started: Aberration, Gunboat, Marton, Afterthought, Merry Fly, Pushful. Won by a length. Time, Imin 29s©c.
SECOND DAY. For the second and concluding day of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s annual meeting the weather was fine and the attendance large. The sum of £7336 was put through the totalisator, making £14,401 for the two days. Results are as follows :— HACK HURDLES. Ribstone Pippin 1 Millennial 2 Dorando 3 Also started: Waikaraka, Canadian, Ultimatum. Won very easily by a length. Time, 3min 20sec. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP. Six furlongs. Sunbonnet 1 Burton 3 Splash . 3 Also started: Lord Soult, Simplex. Won by half a length. Time, Imin 16 l-ssec. NEWMARKET HANDICAP. Fve furlongs. Rurik and Leahora (dead-heat) 1 Lady Doris • 3 Also started: Magneto, Merry Fly, Ahuapai, Puketotara, Lochiela, Gaby, ■Rumble, Passadena, Harrington, Avaunt, Coronella. A good race. Rurik led to the last two furlongs, but Leahora came up with a fast run and made a deadheat. Lady Doris was half a length away. Time, Imin 3 l-ssec. MANGAHAO HACK WELTER HANDICAP. Seven furlongs. Floater | Contour 3 Tulloch Ard ;■ •" 3 Also started: Mediterranean, Eva. Won by a head. Time, Imm 31sec. RACING CLUB HANDICAP. One mile and a furlong. First Consul 1 Teotane 3 Waipunui 3 Also started: Ariom, Passive, Captain Bell, Mataari. Won by a head. Time, Imin 56 l-ssec. MAIDEN HACK SCURRY. Five ■furlongs. Septimus z ........, 1 Matapouri 3 Sunset • Also started: Overheard, Maniton, Moeroa, Golden Ripple, Foreshot. Won very easly by several lengths. Time, Imin 4 l-ssec. MAKURI HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs. Rurik 1 Odessa 3 British Maid Wl’' / Also started: Epsom Downs, Portcullis, Mescal, Lifeline. Won by a length. Time. Imin 17 3-ssec. GLADSTONE WELTER HANDICAP. Five furlongs.
