CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUE’S SUMMER MEETING.

FIRST DAY. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting opened on Thursday in beautiful weather, with the course in capital order. The attendance was not large, but without bookmakers the totalisator investments showed a marked increased. Results were as follow: — TRIAL STAKES of lOOsovs. One mile. Mr. D. Moraghan’s b m Aunt Sally, 4yrs, by Royal Artillery—Gipsy Girl, 8.2 (Jas. Pine) 1 Sir Geo. Clifford’s True Knight, 8.0 (F. E. Jones) -2 Mr. H. A. Knight’s Puaka, 7.11 (Wilson) 3 Also started: Darracq 8.2, Umeraboy 8.2, Milo 8.2, Kora. Aunt Sally was first to show out, and easily holding her advantage won by two lengths from True Knight, who was a head in front of Puaka. HORNBY WELTER HANDICAP of 100 sovs. Seven furlongs. Mr. T. Sheenan’s ch m Merry Lass, syrs, by Finland—Pleasure Seeker, 8.8 (J. McCluskey) 1 Mr. I. Y. McCracken’s Alexis, 8.5 (L. King) 2 Mr. A. Kilts and Alexis were the quickest to begin. With their heads turned for home Alexis had the measure of Kilts, but at the distance Merry Lass came up with a strong run and won by a neck. Aphaea jumped away smartly, and led round the top turn and well into the straight. Here Colleen Mary put in a strong run and got up in time to win by a head. Turning into the straight Cronstadt was still in front, and won comfortably by a length and a-half from Rose Noble, who beat Coroniform by a head. Outlander was fourth. Time, 2min 38 2-ssec. Khamsin was the quickest to begin, and led round the top turn from Avarice, Pert and Pleasure Bent. Turning into, the straight Khamsin was still in front, and stalling off a strong challenge by Avarice won by a head. Pleasure Bent was four lengths back, followed by Pert. Time, Imin 14 4-ssec. CRAVEN PLATE of 200sovs. Seven furlongs. Mr. H. Friedlander’s ch m Fasnakyle, by Clanranald—Teredina, 8.1 (H. Gray) 1 Mr. J. J. Mcßride’s Obsono, 9.9 (R. Hatch) 2 Mr. M. Hobb’s Chief Lochiel, 8.5 (J. Pine) 3 Also started: Sharpshooter 9.9, Prim 9.7, Boutade 8.12, Genius 8.4, Countermine 7.13, Medallist 7.13, Queen of Spades 7.8. Fasnakyle and Obsono led into the straight, with Queen of Spades, Boutade and Chief Lochiel at the head of the others. At the distance Chief Lochiel had taken third place, while Fasnakyle had Obsono’s measure, and won by half a length. Chief Lochiel was a length away, with Genius fourth. Time, Imin 27 l-ssec. HALLSWELL WELTER HANDICAP of lOOsovs. One mile. Mr. J. Grigg’s br f Romany Maid, 3yrs, by Calibre—Romany Lass, 7.8 (H. Gray) ~ 1 Mr. A. Macfarlane’s Achray, 8.9 (L. King) 2 Sir Geo. Achray and Nithsdale were in front at the distance, where Romany Maid came through and won by a length and a-half. Nithsdale was a similar distance back. Time, Imin 42 3-ssec. SECOND DAY The meeting was concluded in fine weather, with a fair attendance. The heavy rain that fell on Friday had not hurt the track, and a good afternoon’s sport was witnessed. Antagonist, who was making his first appearance, scored very easly in the Middle Park Plate. The totalisator investments amounted to £9390 making £17,257 for the meeting. Master Paul was first away, and with Armstrong next led to the distance, where he fell back beaten. Armstrong then took charge, but was at once challenged by Medallist, who came with a strong run and won by two lengths. Alexis was a head away third, with Gold Coin fourth. Time, Imin 30 2-ssec. Antagonist at once dashed to the front and .was. never_tnoubled, winning easily by six lengths from Vice-Admiral who beat Orton by a head for second place. Time, Imin 15sec. ST. This was the order as the field reached the straight, where Coroniform took second place, but was unable to reach Rose Noble, who won by a long head.
