PIANO-PLAYING EXTRAORDINARY

MR. STIRTON’S RECORD.

There are records and records, as the fancy of the champion decides. Mr. J. S. Stirton enjoys the distinction of breaking the world’s record of 69y z hours for continuous piano-play-ing by 4 hours 43 minutes at the Theatre Royal, New Plymouth. For 74 hours 13 minutes Mr. Stirton played without a moment’s respite, and he still possessed plenty of vigour and spirit, as he provided the music for the biograph pictures which followed his feat.- During the course of the evening the Mayor (Mr. G-. Tisch) presented the new world’s champion, through his manager, Mr. Campion, with a handsome gold medal subscribed for by residents of the town. Mr. Campion returned thanks for Mr. Stirton, and remarked that this was the fifth time that the latter had put up a record. Mr. Stirton is a resident of Wanganui.
