AQUATICS

The North Shore RC. had a very successful “At Home” on Saturday, the trial fours for Mr. Kohn’s trophies being won by L. Spinley, L. Fraser, H. Grubb and G. Seagar (stroke). * * * *

The North Shore R.C. will hold races for the Challenge Cup on April

A sculling race will be held by the St. George’s RC. next Saturday for Mr. Rathbone’s handsome rose bowl.

There have been few more enjoyable week-end cruises than that of Saturdav and Sunday. The weather was beautifully fine throughout, and although the wind was. very light for the homeward-bound trip, yet matters would have been difficult to mend. At present there are great numbers of schnapper in the Gulf, and all the yachts report very large catches.

Next Saturday the Devonport Club will hold a cruising race to Waiwera. It is the last event of the season.

Sydney yachts had their last race of the season on March 13, when the Prince Alfred Club decided a general handicap. It was an exciting contest, too, as Thelma (C. Lloyd Jones), lmin, only won by ssec. from the/ Auckland-built .Petrel (C. Trebeck),. 13min, with Sunbeam (A. W. Crane), another Auckland boat, 15min, third, ssec. later. Just before the finish Petrel and Sunbeam took part in a luffing match, and Thelma then slipped ahead.

Dixie won again in the race for the Waitemata Club’s dinghies, with Olivine second and Lone Hand third. I cannot help thinking that if the interest in this young club is to be maintained. some handicap must go on the programme. It must be getting monotonous for Arawa and Rita to finish last in every event, and their owners show pluck in constantly turning out in the face of certain defeat. * * * * The chief event at the annual regatta of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria was the Lipton Cup. No fewer than 24 yachts entered. The contest was won by Helen, which had a han dicap of 7min. Her time was 4h. 34m. 21s. Ellida (16%m. handicap) was second, and she took 4h. 37m. Bs. to complete the course. Kurrewa 11. (Bm. handicap) filled third place. * * * * W. Ingram, N. Mitchell, H. Woodroffe and T. Stone stroke), formed the winning crew at the St. George’s R.C- Trial Fours on Saturday, and they accordingly annexed Mr. W. S. Whitley’s handsome trophies. * * * * The West End Club’s final “ At Home” took place on Saturday, the winners of the Trial Fours being S. Higginson, R. Farrell, A. Bennett and H. Rowe (stroke). These take the trophies presented by Mr. , A. Kohn.

Menzies, Reston, Wolfgram and Parkinson (stroke), won the Trial Fours at the Waitemata Boating Club’s afternoon on Saturday. Mr. G- Read presented the trophies.

Gray, Gentles, Wilson and Barber (stroke) won the Kohn trophies at the Auckland R.C. Trial Fours on Saturday.
