THE POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB.
The Spring Meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club has been fixed to take place on Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30. This progressive club has been making great strides of late, and. as will be seen on glancing at our advertising columns, the programme for the coming meeting is a very good one. The events to be contested on the opening day are the Trial Handicap of 50 sovs, six furlongs; the First Hurdles of 60 sovs., one and three-quarter miles; the First County Stakes of 50 sovs, six furlongs; the Spring Handicap of 120 sovs., one and a-quarter miles; the First Welter Handicap of 50 sovs., seven furlongs: the Maiden Scurry of 50 sovs., four furlongs; the Flying Handicap of 90 sovs., six furlongs; and the First Hack Flat Handicap of 50 sovs., one mile. Coming to the second day’s list, we find the Second Welter of 50 sovs., one mile; the Second Hurdles of 60 sovs., one and a-half miles; the Second County Stakes of 50 sovs., one mile; the Makaraka Handicap of 100 sovs., one mile; the Second Hack Flat Handicap of 50 sovs., six furlongs; the Maiden Scurry Handicap of 50 sovs., five furlongs; the Waikanae Handicap of 8.0 sovs., five furlongs; and the Farewell Handicap of 50 sovs, seven furlongs. The Poverty Bay Turf Club’s fixture is as pleasant a one as one could wish to attend, being a very popular fixture locally, while it is always well managed. Mr. D. R. De Costa, the secretary, will take entries at the Club Room, Masonic Hotel, Gisborne, up to 9.30 p.m. on October 3 for the First and Second County Stakes, the First and Second Hurdles, the Spring,
Flying, Makaraka, and Waikanae Handicaps. Entries for other events close on October 17.
