THE MANAWATU RACING CLUB’S FUTURE CLASSICS.

In this issue will be found particulars of the Manawatu Racing Club’s future big classic events. These are as follows:— The Fourth Palmerston North Stakes of 500 sovs., to be run at the Summer Meeting of 1909; for two-year-olds and upwards; weight for age, with penalties and allowances. Six furlongs. The Sixth Manawatu Stakes of 500 sovs., to be run for at the Autumn Meeting of 1910; for two-year-olds and upwards; weight for age, with penalties and allowances. Six furlongs, The Second Manwatu Sires Produce Stakes of 1000 sovs., to be run for at the Christmas Meeting of 1909; for two and three-year-olds; special weights. Six furlongs. For this race the nomination for sires and for 1906 foals by such sires are closed. For the first two races entries for yearlings and upwards and for the Sires’ Produce Stakes nominations for 1907 foals (progeny of nominated sires) close with Mr. J. M. Johnston, the secretary, on Friday, September 11. at 10 p.m. The Manawatu Racing Clubs efforts to cater for the best class horses is a very praiseworthy one, and is deserving of the highest encouragement from owners and breeders. We have far too few weight-for-age events, and by freely nominating owners should show their appreciation of this effort to provide races of this description.
