THE GREAT NORTHERN MEETING

When Mr. Hartland came to make up the list of entries for the Great Northern Meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, a very satisfactory state of affairs was disclosed, for the col lective nominations constitute a record for the winter meetings. Nearly all the events have filled well, the welter events especially so. For instance, in the Jervois Handicap no less thas thirty-eight will have to be dealt with by the handicapper. Such races as the Ladies’ Bracelet have not, of course, attracted such heavy nominations, but the list all round is very gratifying to the compilers of the programme. As far as the acceptances for the Great Northern Hurdle Race and Steeplechase are concerned, these also are satisfactory in that the malcontents have been few. Twenty-five remain in the Hurdle Race, so that it would seem probable the field will be a large one. For the Steeplechase twenty-one have cried content, which would seem to point to the fact that there will be no lack of competitors for the big ’chasing event. - A final payment of 3sovs for the G.N. Hurdles is due on May 22, the final payment for the Steeplechase being on June 1. Handicaps for the first day’s events are due to appear to-morrow, and. acceptances for these must be made to Mr. Hartland by Friday, May 22.
