COUNTERFEITERS BUSY.

In tracing the movements of a man who has been alleged to have tried to dis-

pose of a stolen neck fur, the Melbourne police came upon a coiner’s plant in good going order, in which counterfeit half-crowns were in process of manufacture. They found the suspect at a house in Carlton. In making a search of the house the police found plaster of Paris moulds of half-crowns. In one of the moulds was an unfinished counterfeit coin, and under a palliasse on a sofa another suprious half-crown was found. The

police also found acids and tools forming a complete coining kit. A large number of forged Colonial Bank £1 notes are in circulation, and. several of them have found their way into the hands of the detectives. The notes are photographed replicas of the genuine articles, and are so well prepared that they might easily deceive. Even the colours are duplicated by photographv. The first seen of these forged notes was at last Cup time.
