ONLY A FRIEND.
Mrs Booser, thinking to cure her husband of intemperance and bring him home earlier at nights, rented a Mephistopheles costume, and, arraying herself in it, awaited, with lamp turned low, the coming of Mr Booser. Arriving, unsteady of gait and uncertain of speech, at 3 a.m., he encountered at the head of the stairs the horned appartion in red. “Who are you?” he asked curiously. “I am the devil,” came the reply in solemn, impressive tone. “Glad t’ see.yo’,” said Booser affably, lurching forward to shake hands- “Married yo’ sist’r.”
