At Victoria Park last week the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club got off three footraces, and in the mile event for secondary school representatives the winner (G. N. Hill, of King’s College) put up a meritorious performance, covering the distance in 4m. 39 4-SS. Fo’lowing are the results. —Open Handicap,

The sum of and nine gold medals is being offered in prizes in connection with the annua 1 gathering of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society to be held at Masterton on January 1. As usual with such gatherings, an attractive programme has been arranged to suit all classes of competitors. Entries for all handicap events close on December 7.
The final Bal ot for the election of the Council of the Amateur Athletic Associaion held at Christchurch last week, resulted in the return of Messrs. W. G. Atack, H. S. Batchelor, C. J. Cooper, J. E. Green. J. F. Grierson, D. Hamber, G. H. Mason, E. Norden, and J. R. Olliver.
Record entries have been received for the axemen’s championship carnival to be held at Eltham on December 26 and 27, being 15 above the total for last year. Axemen and sawyers to the number of 249 have been nominated for the eleven events, and late entries are expected from Victoria and Tasmania. There are 50 entries for the axemen’s cup of £l4O, and 13 pairs for the double-handed sawing championship. Miley, the Australian champion axeman, and Thomas Pettitt, the world’s champion sawyer, will compete at the carnival.
