Napieb, July 12. Air. J. C. AlcVay, president of the Napier Park Racing Club, left for Wellington this morning to attend the Racing Conference as a delegate of the country clubs in this district.

1 understand that Air. George Hunter has definitely decided to contest the AVaipaiva seat at the next general elections. The Talune did' not arrive from Gisborne till late last night, and in consequence of the rough Aveather at the latter port did not bring back any of the local horses avlio had been assisting at the late Gisborne meeting. Fortunately none of them Avere engaged at the Wellington meeting this week. Jack o’ Lantern, who was one of the contesting forces at Gisborne, has an engagement to fulfil on the second day of the Wellington meeting, but if all goes well he will arrive in the Empire City on Thursday night. Air. J. E. Henrys is due to arrive in Wellington from Sydney to-morrow. He has been having a flying holiday to the other colonies.

Mr. AV. Parker, who the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club put on the black list 14 years ago through his_j3onnection with Problem, alias Warepa, alias Carino, alias Redeemer, alias The Redeem colt, had the disqualification removed by the HaAvke’s Bay Jockey Club last week. Parker, avlio is uoav keeping an hotel at Forbes, N.S.W., may noAv be expected to take a hand in the game in the sunny South.

In years gone by he, besides Problem, had an interest in Wanderer, Fugitive, Aloonee, and Woolman when those gee-gees were carrying silk in New Zealand.

Gold Seal, Avho is under the guidance of T. Jones, is looking well, and shows no sign of the accident that laid him aside a couple of months ago. The Possible, who fractured one of his pasterns a short time back, is in a bad way, and fears are entertained that he will not recover from the effects of the mishap.

Through the vagaries of a telephone attendant in one of the back blocks in the Dannevirke district, the entry of Bill Bailey for the Grand National race did not reach the secretary of the C. J .C. until 24 hours after the advertised time for closing. Mr. F. Armstrong was so annoyed over the matter that he had serious thoughts of quitting the racing game for good. Itiibpily, second thoughts won, and the cherry jacket, black sash and cuffs will still continue to be borne by representatives of the Akitio sportsman.

Last week Mr. T. H. Lowry took 500 to 5 about his filly Sweet Helen for the NeAV Zealand Cup. Cairo changed ownership the other day. Air. P. Neagle having purchased Gipsy King’s son for hunting purposes. A five-year-old full brother to Evening is one of the latest additions to R. Gooseman’s string.

AV. Stone has secured a lease of the house and stables Avhich J. T. Alurfitt used to occupy previous to his removal to the establishment at which the late R. Connop was domiciled.

Benefactor made a start in schooling work over the impediments at Napier Park last week. For a beginner his essays Avere of an attractive nature.

A. Neale, the Hawke’s Bay jockey, Avho got damaged through Te Uku falling Avith him in the Hack Flat Race at the late Gisborne gathering, is progressing favourably toAvards recoA r er\’, though he is not yet able to leave his room' in one of the Gisborne hotels. He is one of the most industrious and courteous lads who follow riding, and it is to be hoped that he Avill soon be about again and able to folloAv his avocation.
