THE AUSTRALASIAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Australasian amateur athletic •championships took place at Melbourne on Saturday and Monday, on the floe grounds of the Melbourne Cricket Club. Although the attendance was not so good as expected, the various events were very keenly contested. Owing to the early rain, the course was not in good order for record breaking, although some good performances were done. On Monday, however, a hot wind made the track very fast, and some capital times were recorded. Time, 15min 30sec, the Victorian record. LONG JUMP CHAMPIONSHIP. Duigan (Victoria), 21ft 9in 1 Hunter (Victoria), 20ft B£in 2 Blake (Victoria), 19ft sin 3 QUARTER-MILE HURDLES. Smith (New Zealand) 1 Macpherson (Victoria) 2 Davis (Victoria) 3 The New Zealander led throughout and won easily. Time, 58isec. This is a world’s record. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS.
